As the Ladakh region is witnessing a good tourism season, the government will be promoting lesser known spots of the region to attract more tourists.
During an interactive meeting with travel agents and hoteliers at Kargil, Tourism Director, Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said, “We want tourists to stay in Kargil and spend a few nights here. For this, we will try to promote lesser-known destinations of the region.”
He said major sporting events would be held in the district in which different countries would participate.
Shah said high peaks which were 6,000 metres and above in height would be identified and all such peaks in Kargil would be used for the promotion of adventure tourism. He urged the hoteliers to avail all schemes by the Government of India for infrastructure development and upgrade of their units.
The Department of Tourism is also organising a familiarisation tour for mediapersons throughout the country who will be taken to different tourism spots in Kashmir and Kargil.
Earlier, the Director visited Drass and the lesser-known spots in the area. Besides taking the stock of the tourism facilities, he visited the Maskoh valley and Bimbat village to promote the places among travellers.
